By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week

WHEREAS, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily also known as “brittle bone disease;” and

WHEREAS, a person is born with OI and is affected throughout his or her lifetime; and

WHEREAS, there are different types of OI with a range of severity from mild to life threatening; and

WHEREAS, because there is no cure for OI, treatment focuses on minimizing fractures, the surgical correction of deformity, reducing bone fragility, maximizing mobility and independent function; and

WHEREAS, increased education and research are needed to help find more effective treatments; and

WHEREAS, the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation recognizes May 4-11, 2024, as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week, and board members, staff, medical professionals, and volunteers are joining together to increase awareness;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize May 4-11, 2024, as OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA (OI) AWARENESS WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
