Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (2009)
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
WHEREAS, childhood cancer is the number one disease causing fatalities among children and young adults; and
WHEREAS, every year, more than 12,500 children and young adults are diagnosed with some form of cancer; and
WHEREAS, on any given school day approximately forty-six young people, or two classrooms of students, from across the Commonwealth of Virginia are diagnosed with cancer; and
WHEREAS, one in every 330 persons in the United States will develop cancer before their twentieth birthday; and
WHEREAS, it is critical to raise awareness to aid in finding new treatments and cures; and
WHEREAS, the children of the Commonwealth are our most precious resource, and their health and well-being is extremely important;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize September 2009 as CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
