Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month
WHEREAS, the health, safety, and well-being of all Virginians is important to the strength and livelihood of families and communities throughout our Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, according to the American Cancer Society more than 80,000 women of all ages and with various health histories are diagnosed with gynecologic cancer each year; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia to work together to increase research in understanding the causes, in finding effective screening and prevention strategies, and in developing improved therapies for gynecologic cancers; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is pleased to join in recognizing and applauding the valuable role that families and advocates of gynecologic cancer victims play in helping our medical community to advance the fight against the disease;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize September 2009 as GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
