Lights on After School Day

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is firmly committed to quality after school programs and opportunities that build stronger communities by involving students, parents, business leaders and adult volunteers in the lives of young people, thereby promoting positive relationships among youth, families and adults; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia provides significant leadership in the area of community involvement in the education and well-being of our youth, grounded in the principle that quality after school programs are vital to helping our children become successful adults; and

WHEREAS, the Lights on After School celebration promotes the importance of quality after school programs in the lives of children, families and communities; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to the health and safety of all young people by providing safe, challenging, and engaging learning experiences that help children develop social, emotional, physical and academic skills;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize October 22, 2009 as LIGHTS ON AFTER SCHOOL DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
