Rehabilitation Awareness Week
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia both recognizes and appreciates the many educational, social, and humanitarian contributions to our communities made by nearly one million citizens with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, each of these efforts goes a long way towards strengthening our communities as well as improving the quality of life for all Virginians; and
WHEREAS, the services of rehabilitation medicine have played a key role in allowing many of our citizens with disabilities to find hope, spirit, and dignity as they work to meet countless challenges in their lives; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Commonwealth are fortunate to have access to so many quality rehabilitative services throughout the state that help restore people with disabilities to independent, productive and fulfilling lives; and
WHEREAS, I am pleased to join other communities and states in recognizing Rehabilitation Awareness Week, and during this time I encourage all Virginians to renew their commitment to people with disabilities, their families, and the providers of healthcare services in the community who support their quest to lead fulfilling lives;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize September 20-26, 2009 as REHABILITATION AWARENESS WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA,and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
