Virginia Philanthropy Day

WHEREAS, philanthropic organizations across the Commonwealth play an important role in enhancing the quality of life for Virginia citizens; and

WHEREAS, nonprofit organizations affect almost all of our citizens in some way or another, as their work to improve the lives of others can be seen through their efforts in support of museums, concerts, sports leagues, and social service organizations; and

WHEREAS, the scope and mission of philanthropic and volunteer activities here in the Commonwealth are quite impressive, as often diverse groups such as large international nonprofits as well as larger neighborhood community centers strive to make our communities better places in which to live; and

WHEREAS, I encourage all Virginians to use the occasion of Philanthropy Day as an opportunity to reflect upon the enormous impact of philanthropic and volunteer organizations on our lives and to shed light upon the many important causes that charitable organizations promote; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize November 23, 2009 as PHILANTHROPY DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
