Virginia Alpaca Farm Days
WHEREAS, in Virginia there are approximately 200 members registered under the Alpaca Owner’s and Breeder’s Association, owning an average of 15 alpacas per herd; and
WHEREAS, the state of Virginia recognizes the alpaca as livestock; and
WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes and celebrates the farmers who prepare, maintain and provide for proper alpaca husbandry in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the alpaca being an earth friendly species allows farmers to maintain green space and keep the family farm in existence; and
WHEREAS, the alpaca's opulent fleece produces a high-quality fiber, provides warmth, and is hypoallergenic and extremely soft; and
WHEREAS, qualities of alpaca fiber comes in 22 colors that are recognized by the textile industry, and there are many blends in addition to that; and
WHEREAS, Virginia alpaca farms continue to make a larger contribution to the Commonwealth’s agricultural production as the industry grows;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize September 26 and 27, 2009 as VIRGINIA ALPACA FARM DAYS in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
