Job Creator Appreciation Month
November 1, 2011 – C3RS, Louisa County
C3RS is a tire recycling company based in Louisa, VA. C3RS has already hired four additional people this year and is in the process of hiring 10 more by year’s end to help with expanded operations beginning in January 2012.
C3RS uses an entirely ambient process where waste tires are never treated with chemicals, heated, melted or burned to break down waste tires into small granules of rubber devoid of other contaminants such as steel and nylon fibers, thus creating a high grade “crumb rubber”.
Through this process, C3RS extracts three materials from tires which are sold as raw materials to outside buyers for manufacturing of products or as C3RS manufactured products such as colored mulch and playground covering which has a 400% longer use period compared to traditional wood mulch.
These raw materials are:
- Rubber, which can be made into thousands of products including roofing tiles, asphalt, mats and other products like molded rubber products;
- Steel, which is smelted down and reused; and
- Fiber, which is used in materials such as carpeting.
Through its recycling efforts, C3RS enables manufacturers to eliminate thousands of tons of carbon emissions by utilizing recycled rubber crumb material in products, which in turn prevents tons of tire scrap from filling up Virginia’s landfills each year.
By recycling just one truck load of tires a month, C3RS can reduce emissions by 225 Metric Tons or over 5300 million BTU in a single year. This is equivalent to:
- Over 40 Vehicles Annually
- 50 Households Annual Energy Consumption
- Up to 43,000 Gallons of Gasoline
