Governor Kaine Announces Appointments to University of Virginia Board
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced appointments to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors.
Don R. Pippin of Wise has served on the Board since 2002. He graduated from the University’s College at Wise in 1960 and the University Law School in 1963. A semi-retired lawyer, Pippin is a former Norton city attorney and served on the city’s school board. Pippin has served on the UVa-Wise Board and executive committee. He has been active in the University’s Alumni Association as well as The Lawn, Cornerstone and Rotunda Societies.
Warren M. Thompson of Herndon has served on the Board since 2002. He earned an M.B.A. from the University and served eight years on the Board of the Darden School. He is President and CEO of Thompson Hospitality Corporation, Inc., one of the nation’s largest minority-owned businesses, employing more than 2,000 people and operating in 33 states.
Dr. E. Darracott Vaughan, Jr., of New York has served on the Board since 2002. He is a 1961 graduate of Washington and Lee University, and earned a medical degree from the University of Virginia in 1965. Dr. Vaughan served on the University’s medical school faculty from 1973 to 1978 and is chairman emeritus of the urology department at Weill Cornell University Medical Center. He is a former president of the American Board of Urology.
Daniel R. Abramson of Alexandria earned his B.A. in psychology from the University in 1970. While attending the University, he was chosen captain of the varsity soccer team and now serves on the University’s Men’s Soccer Advisory Board. Abramson is a principal with Abramson Properties, a real estate development firm. He has served on the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia since 2005.
