Governor Kaine Announces CTB Appointment
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the appointment of J. Douglas Koelemay of Springfield to serve on the Commonwealth Transportation Board. Koelemay will serve the unexpired term of Katherine K. Hanley, who resigned from CTB to serve as Governor Kaine’s Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Koelemay is managing director at Qorvis Communications, a public relations and public affairs firm in Northern Virginia. Prior to joining Qorvis, he was vice president of public affairs for the Northern Virginia Technology Council. In 1993, Koelemay served as executive director of the federal Commission to Promote Investment in America’s Infrastructure, which identified innovative ways to encourage investment in the nation's stock of physical infrastructure. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Koelemay to its Tysons Land Use Task Force in 2005.
“Doug Koelemay brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to CTB,” Governor Kaine said. “He has a deep understanding of many of the statewide transportation challenges we face – including the need to build-up our public transit capacity, and to be smarter in the way we link land use and transportation issues. I expect Doug to have an immediate and positive impact on the Board.”
Koelemay will serve in the Northern Virginia district seat on CTB, and his term expires in June 2008. The Commonwealth Transportation Board is a 17-member board with responsibility for overseeing an adequate transportation system for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the Commonwealth.
