Governor Kaine Announces Workshops for Northern Virginia
Job Seekers
– Collaboration between SkillSource Group, Inc., Monster and the Governor's Economic Crisis Strike Force –
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced five free Northern Virginia Job Seeker workshops between September 2009 and January 2010. The workshops are the result of a collaboration of the Governor's Economic Crisis Strike Force with online employment service Monster and The SkillSource Group, Inc. (SSG), the non-profit arm of the Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board (NVWIB).
"I'm pleased that both public and private institutions are collaborating to help workers in Northern Virginia enter or advance within the workforce," Governor Kaine said. "These workshops will help strengthen the workforce in Northern Virginia and the economic competitiveness of the region."
The Northern Virginia Job Seeker Workshops are focused on supporting all job seekers with advice and techniques they need to stand out to potential employers. Experts from Monster will teach job seekers about new resume tips and strategies, how to successfully network, new job hunting strategies, how to successfully use career tools and what employers are looking for when they interview in this difficult employment market.
The first Northern Virginia Job Seeker Workshop will be held on Monday September 21, 2009 from 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035. Job seekers can register by emailing a name and address to info@myskillsource.org or by contacting a local SkillSource Center. Registration is requested as space is limited.
The afternoon workshop will conclude with a Resource Fair that will run from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Representatives of state and local government and community organizations will be on hand to provide information on additional resources available to job seekers attending the workshop.
Additional Job Seeker Workshops will be held:
- October 20, 2009 – Northern Virginia Community College - Annandale
- November 18, 2009 – Northern Virginia Community College - Woodbridge
- December 15, 2009 – Northern Virginia Community College - Loudoun
- January 21, 2010 – Location to be announced
