Governor Kaine Announces Court of Appeals Appointment
– Judge LeRoy F. Millette Jr. of Manassas appointed –
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the appointment of Judge LeRoy F. Millette Jr. to the Court of Appeals of Virginia. Judge Millette is a circuit court judge in Prince William County, where he has served since 1993.
“Judge Millette is a first-rate jurist who has devoted his life to the law,” Governor Kaine said. “I am pleased that Judge Millette has agreed to serve on the Court of Appeals. His talent and commitment will serve the Commonwealth well.”
Judge Millette served as chief judge of the 31st Judicial Circuit from 1998-2000 and has been in that position again since 2006. He also is a member of the Circuit Court Benchbook Committee and the Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission.
Prior to serving on the 31st Circuit Court, Judge Millette served as a General District Court judge from 1990 to 1993. Before he was appointed to the bench, Judge Millette was an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Prince William County and practiced law as a sole practitioner and at Compton, Latimer, Compton & Compton. He also has been an associate professor at Northern Virginia Community College since 1976.
Judge Millette was born in Pennsylvania and was raised in Alexandria and Fairfax County. He received his undergraduate degree in economics from the College of William and Mary and his J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1974.
Judge Millette, 58, is married to M. Elizabeth O’Brien Millette and has two children, Lauren Elizabeth Millette and LeRoy F. Millette III.
