Governor Kaine Appoints Acting Director of Department of Rail and Public Transportation
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today appointed Corey W. Hill to serve as the Acting Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). Hill joined the Department in 1997 and has led its Administration and Capital Projects Division since 2003. He succeeds Karen J. Rae, who is resigning to join the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Secretariat of Transportation as a Deputy Secretary of Transportation.
“Corey’s experience in rail, public transportation and overall administration of the Department will allow DRPT to continue to grow and improve,” Governor Kaine said. “As we tackle our transportation challenges in the current General Assembly session, everyone agrees that transit and rail will be an increasingly important part of any overall transportation solution.”
While working for DRPT, Hill has served as the Northern Virginia Regional Manager, Project Director for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project through much of the planning phase, Project Manager for several major planning studies and recently led the Department through an update of its strategic plan. Prior to joining DRPT, Hill worked for the Virginia Railway Express.
Hill earned his B.S. in Political Science from James Madison University and his Master’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University.
The Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is the state agency responsible for rail and public transportation in Virginia. One of six agencies that report to the Secretary of Transportation, DRPT facilitates the movement of people and goods throughout Virginia via rail, public transportation and commuter services.
