Governor-Elect Tim Kaine Announces the Beach Boys Will Headline the Inaugural Concert

Richmond – Governor-elect Tim Kaine announced today that the Beach Boys will headline the Inaugural Concert, Friday, January 13th, at Kaplan Arena at William & Mary Hall. The “Promise of Virginia” Concert will also feature a collection of Virginia talent.

“I am delighted that the Beach Boys and the Virginia artists have agreed to perform at the Inaugural Concert,” said Governor-elect Tim Kaine. “This is going to be a fun show and an important part of effort to celebrate Virginia throughout our Inaugural festivities.”

More details concerning the Virginia artists that will be performing at the various Inaugural festivities will be released at a later time.

The Inauguration is an official function of the General Assembly, which decided to hold the ceremony in Williamsburg due to renovations underway at the State Capitol building. The upcoming swearing-in will be the first in Williamsburg since Governor Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated in 1779. The formal swearing-in occurs during a joint session of the House of Delegates and the Senate. The program includes the administration of the oaths of office to the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and the Attorney General, the Inaugural address by the Governor and concludes with the Inaugural parade.

This year’s Inaugural theme is the “Promise of Virginia.” Festivities surrounding the Inauguration begin on Friday, January 6th, with a Pre-Inaugural Latino Reception in Arlington. They include a Pre-Inaugural Ball in Abingdon on January 7th and three Inaugural Balls in Williamsburg and Richmond on Saturday, January 14th, and conclude with an open house at the Executive Mansion in Richmond on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15th.
