Governor Kaine Announces Appointments to Governor's Office, Transportation, Public Safety, and Commonwealth Preparedness Secretariats
RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced additional appointments to his staff and several Cabinet-level offices.
Alfonso Lopez of Arlington will serve as Director of the Virginia Liaison Office in Washington, D.C. Previously, Lopez served as Deputy Policy Director in the Transition Office. Prior to that, Lopez served as a federal lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
Eileen Filler-Corn of Springfield will serve as Senior Advisor to the Governor for State-Federal Relations in the Virginia Liaison Office in Washington, D.C. She served as Deputy Director in the Virginia Liaison Office for the past four years. Additionally, she was appointed by Governor Mark R. Warner to serve on the Governor’s Task Force on the Real ID Act.
Aaron Ver of Juneau, AK, will serve as a Policy Analyst in the Virginia Liaison Office in Washington, D.C. Ver previously served as a Regional Field Director in Charlottesville for the Kaine for Governor campaign.
Marilyn P. Harris of Petersburg will serve as Deputy Secretary of Public Safety, a position she has held since June 2005. Harris, who has 31 years of experience in state government, previously served as Assistant Secretary of Public Safety and Director of the Governor’s Office for Substance Abuse Prevention.
James G. Carr of Richmond will serve as Assistant Secretary of Transportation, a position he has held since July 2003.
Dawn B. Smith of Newport News will serve as Assistant Secretary of Public Safety, a position she has held since 2002. Smith has served in state government for 15 years.
Steven M. Mondul of Miami, FL, will serve as Deputy Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness. Previously, Mondul served as the State Director of Security and Emergency Management in the Virginia Department of Transportation and has 13 years of experience in state government.
Sherrie L. Harrington of Richmond will serve as Confidential Assistant to the Governor. Previously, Harrington served as Director of Administration and Scheduling in the office of the Lieutenant Governor for four years. Prior to joining the Lieutenant Governor’s staff, Harrington served as Executive Assistant at Kaine’s law firm, McCandlish Kaine, P.C., for 17 years.
Margaret K. Hughson of Mechanicsville will serve as Confidential Assistant to the Governor’s Chief of Staff, William H. Leighty. Hughson, a career state employee, previously served as Governor Warner’s Director of Constituent Services (2005-2006) and has worked for various executive and independent branch agencies. Her tenure in government began in 1970 under the leadership of Governor A. Linwood Holton.
Svandis R. Pollard of Richmond will serve as the Governor’s Receptionist. Pollard previously served in the Virginia Department of Taxation.
Carrie Henderson Caumont of Richmond will serve as Deputy Director of Scheduling. Henderson Caumont previously served as Deputy Scheduler for Governor Warner.
Jane A. Minerly of Trumbull, CT, will continue to serve as Scheduling Assistant, a position she has held since May 2005.
Maribel Ramos of Richmond will serve as Special Assistant to the Governor’s Policy Office. Ramos served since 2002 as Latino Liaison for Governor Warner and Special Assistant in the Office of Constituent Services.
Michaele White of Chesapeake will continue to serve as the Governor’s Photographer, a position she has held since 2001. Prior to that, White was an art teacher in Chesapeake Public Schools.
Emily Lockhart of Fairfax will continue to serve as the Governor’s Web Manager, a position she has held since 2002. Prior to that, Lockhart served as the Web and Graphic Designer for the Virginia Retirement System.
Robin Winchell of Cincinnati, OH, will serve as Senior Press Aide in the Governor’s Communications Office. Previously, Winchell served as Communications Assistant in the Transition Office and on Governor Kaine’s gubernatorial campaign.
Kim Busch of Prince George County will serve as Press Aide. Busch previously served as a communications intern in the Transition Office and on Governor Kaine’s gubernatorial campaign.
Jeff Tiller of Loudoun County will serve as Press Aide. Tiller previously served as a communications intern in the Transition Office and on Governor Kaine’s gubernatorial campaign.
