Q: I'm interested in applying for
the Governor's Fellows Program, and I wondered when final decisions
will be made regarding this year's participants?
A: Two rounds of decisions will be made during the selection process. A group of applicants will first be invited to Richmond for a panel interview in March. At the beginning of April, a select group will be invited to participate in the program.
Q: How many applicants will be selected for this summer's program?
A: Twelve to fifteen qualified applicants will be invited to participate
in the Fellows Program.
Q: I read that schools have provided stipends to participating students in the past. Whom should I contact at my school in regards to this?
A: The answer to this question varies depending upon your school. Information regarding the Fellows Program was sent to the presidents of all Virginia colleges and universities, so their offices may be the best place to begin with any inquiries regarding stipends. At many schools, presidents have asked student affairs personnel to serve as their representatives in this regard.
Q: I'm interested in applying but am not
from the Richmond area. Are there any housing options available for
those selected to participate in the program?
A: Yes. In past years, Fellows have made
their own housing arrangements, such as staying with a friend or relatives
or subletting an apartment. Since 2003 Virginia Commonwealth
University has agreed to hold a limited number of dormitory rooms for
Fellows who were interested in this option. We hope to offer this option
again this year.
Q: I'm working on my essay question and am slightly confused since most of the bills from this Session haven't been acted on by Governor McDonnell or didn't pass both houses of the General Assembly. Do I need to take this into account when writing my essay?
A: No. When preparing your essay, write from the perspective that no action has been taken on the bill. Assume that you are providing information to Governor McDonnell should the bill come to his desk.
Q: I know that rising college seniors and graduating college seniors are eligible to participate. I'm beginning/completing my graduate program; am I eligible?
A: Yes, you are welcome to submit an application.
Q: I am interested in an unpaid internship, are those available?

Q: Do my reference letters need to be in envelopes that are signed across the seal?
A: It is fine to submit your letters in sealed envelopes, but not required.
