Donate Life Month

WHEREAS,  more than 2,600 Virginians and 105,000 Americans are currently on the waiting list for an organ transplant, and thousands more need life enhancing corneal and tissue transplants; and

WHEREAS,  organ and tissue transplantation can save, prolong, and improve the lives of hundreds of Virginians and tens of thousands of Americans each year; and

WHEREAS,  tragically, because enough organs and tissue are not available, today 18 Americans will die waiting; and

WHEREAS,  every Virginian can register to be a donor either at the Department of Motor Vehicles or on the Commonwealth’s donor registry:  www.Save7Lives.org; and

WHEREAS,  during National Donate Life Month, we celebrate the life-saving work of health care professionals, donors and their families, volunteers and the many other Virginians whose actions reflect their commitment to help save, prolong and improve the quality of life for our fellow citizens;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert F. McDonnell, do hereby recognize April 2010 as DONATE LIFE MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
