Adoption Awareness Month
WHEREAS, children are Virginia’s most precious resource and their well-being is a vital part of creating a firm foundation for a strong future for the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, children need and benefit from having a safe and loving home where they will thrive under the nurturance and protection of caring parents; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is fortunate to have willing citizens who become part of a child’s life as foster parents and provide lifetime security and acceptance for a child by becoming adoptive parents, many to children with physical, mental and emotional challenges; and
WHEREAS, families across our Commonwealth benefit from the important work of agencies, organizations and other child advocates in the community that work together to match waiting and hopeful children with loving and qualified adoptive parents; and
WHEREAS, finding nurturing, permanent homes for waiting children is an objective Virginia works toward throughout the year and, during November special efforts are made to bring greater awareness of the need for adoptive families; and
WHEREAS, the annual observance of Adoption Awareness Month is a time to acknowledge all agencies, organizations and individuals that consistently act as strong voices on behalf of children and to celebrate their important work in helping children develop into confident and successful individuals; and
WHEREAS, proclaiming November as Adoption Awareness Month is part of a national effort to encourage dedicated individuals to make a powerful difference in the life of a child through adoption; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize November 2009 as ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
