Parents’ Day

WHEREAS, the well being of families is important to all Virginians, and parents, above all others, are concerned about the health and safety of their children and provide the foundation for their children’s lives; and

WHEREAS, nurturing, responsible and loving parents are essential to the continued health and prosperity of our Commonwealth and nation; and
 
WHEREAS, parents teach their children how to cope with the many challenges and pressures of today’s society with love and compassion and are responsible for guiding, educating, developing and supervising their children; and

WHEREAS, it is important that parents play a role in instilling in their children a sense of right and wrong while developing their appreciation and respect for others; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that healthy families are necessary for producing healthy, happy and productive children, and Parents’ Day highlights the importance and value of parents in rearing their children to the benefit of their families, communities, and our great Commonwealth and nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize July 26, 2009 as PARENTS’ DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
