Governor Northam Praises Biden Nomination of Gayle Manchin as Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chair

Last month Appalachia’s governors elected Northam as States’ Co-Chair for 2021

RICHMOND—Governor Ralph Northam issued the following statement today after President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Gayle Conelly Manchin for Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). In February, Appalachia’s 13 governors elected Governor Northam to serve as ARC’s States’ Co-Chair for 2021

“President Biden has made an exceptional choice in nominating Gayle Manchin for Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission. A longtime educator and West Virginia native, she understands the critical issues facing our Appalachian communities and is well-qualified to serve in this role. I look forward to working with her as ARC States’ Co-Chair to drive economic growth, strengthen job training and workforce development, expand broadband service, and improve access to health care across Appalachia.”
