WHEREAS, health and well-being are essential to the quality of life throughout the our Commonwealth, and the habits that promote good oral health and hygiene contribute to overall health in Virginians; and
WHEREAS, good dental habits that are learned at a young age and reinforced by parents and dental healthcare providers help people maintain good dental health throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, strong baby teeth, also called primary teeth, help children chew, speak, and hold space in the gums for permanent teeth that are growing under their gums and with proper care, a balanced diet and regular dental visits, a child’s teeth can remain healthy and strong throughout their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, members of the Virginia Dental Association (VDA) in association with the Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF) are dedicated to caring for the dental health needs of Virginia’s children through nationally recognized programs such as Give Kids a Smile, which provide access for children who may not otherwise receive care; and
WHEREAS, VDA dentists participate in Children’s Dental Health Month by sponsoring educational dental health programs and providing dental health treatment for children throughout Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize February 2020 as CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
