WHEREAS, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines kindness as, “the quality or state of being kind”; and
WHEREAS, performing a kind act or good deed for a friend, loved one, neighbor, or stranger is honorable; and
WHEREAS, simple acts, such as holding open a door, can improve someone’s day; and
WHEREAS, compassionate acts often have a ripple effect, leading to that person performing another kind action; and
WHEREAS, it is important that each citizen treat others as they wish to be treated; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia asks that all citizens perform an act of kindness on this day;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize June 14, 2019, as a DAY OF KINDNESS in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
