WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the unique bond between father and child, and to honor the dedication of fathers to their families and communities; and
WHEREAS, fathers have an enormous impact on their children, and are instrumental in helping them reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, fathers serve as role models to their children and demonstrate unwavering commitment, compassion, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is strengthened by the numerous community organizations that promote responsible fatherhood and encourage men to be the fathers and husbands their families deserve; and
WHEREAS, Father’s Day is also an opportunity to pay special tribute to the many Virginia fathers currently serving overseas in the Armed Forces, who are unable to share this day with their families;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize June 17, 2018, as FATHER’S DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
