WHEREAS, since 1968, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) has granted children and adults excellent foundations and benefits; and
WHEREAS, the two fundamental goals of the CACFP are that participants serviced by this program will be well nourished while concurrently learning healthy eating behaviors; and
WHEREAS, incorporating local food and agricultural education into CACFP can play an important role in creating and promoting a healthy environment; and
WHEREAS, there is a well-established and growing public interest in supporting local and regional food systems by purchasing these foods and incorporating agricultural-based curriculum and activities into early childhood education and care; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s Farm to CACFP initiative connects participants to educational activities that incorporate nutrition education, local and seasonal food, and gardening, while supporting Virginia agriculture;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 18-24, 2020, as FARM to CACFP WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
