By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

International Transgender Day of Visibility

WHEREAS, in 2009, International Transgender Day of Visibility was started to honor the achievements and contributions of members of the transgender community; and

WHEREAS, International Transgender Day of Visibility is not only a time to celebrate the achievements of transgender people around the world, but also to recognize the bravery it takes to live openly and authentically; and

WHEREAS, International Transgender Day of Visibility provides an opportunity to recognize how transgender Virginians have contributed to communities across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, we also recognize that many members of the transgender community continue to live under the weight of discrimination and with the fear of targeted violence; and

WHEREAS, International Transgender Day of Visibility is a day to uplift our transgender neighbors and recommit ourselves to ensuring that all Virginians can live safely and are treated with respect; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize March 31, 2026, as INTERNATIONAL TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
