By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome Awareness Month
WHEREAS, September is recognized as Polycystic Ovarian Metabolic Syndrome (PMOS) Awareness Month, formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), providing an opportunity to increase understanding of PMOS and its impact on individuals and families; and
WHEREAS, PMOS is a common hormonal disorder that can affect reproductive health, metabolism, and overall well-being, yet many individuals remain undiagnosed or face delays in receiving appropriate care; and
WHEREAS, common symptoms of PMOS include irregular menstrual periods, excess facial or body hair, and weight gain, and the condition can increase the risk of infertility, Type 2 diabetes, thickening of the uterine lining, and high blood pressure; and
WHEREAS, greater awareness and education about PMOS can help individuals recognize symptoms, seek appropriate medical care, and better manage the condition; and
WHEREAS, health care professionals, researchers, advocates, and organizations across Virginia work to improve PMOS diagnosis, treatment, research, and support for those affected by the condition; and
WHEREAS, during PMOS Awareness Month, Virginians are encouraged to learn about PMOS, support those affected, and promote greater awareness of this condition.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 2026 as POLYENDOCRINE METABOLIC OVARIAN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
