193rd Anniversary of Bolivian Independence Day


WHEREAS, after the signing of Bolivia’s declaration of independence, August 6, 1825, marked the first Independence Day; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia is home to one of the largest Bolivian populations in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s Bolivian community enriches the Commonwealth with its traditions, food, and culture; and

WHEREAS, Virginians can enjoy a variety of ethnic foods, musical groups, bands, and a variety of dances representing the nine departments of Bolivia; and

WHEREAS, Fiesta Boliviana, in coordination with the Bolivian American Heritage Foundation, celebrates this anniversary with various cultural activities and a gala that will unite Bolivians, other Latin Americans, and other communities; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia celebrates Bolivian Independence Day in unity with Bolivian and Latin American families, organizers, and participants throughout Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize August 6, 2018, as the 193rd ANNIVERSARY OF BOLIVIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
