196th Anniversary Of Bolivian Independence Day


WHEREAS, the signing of Bolivia’s Declaration of Independence on August 6, 1825, marked the country’s first Independence Day; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia is home to one of the largest Bolivian populations in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s Bolivian community enriches the Commonwealth with its traditions, food, and culture; and

WHEREAS, each year, in observance of Bolivia’s independence, Virginians can enjoy a variety of foods, musical groups, and cultural performances representing the nine departments of Bolivia; and

WHEREAS, Fiesta Boliviana, in coordination with the Bolivian American Heritage Foundation, commemorates Bolivia’s independence with various cultural activities and a gala that unites Bolivians, Latinos, and friends from throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia celebrates Bolivian Independence Day in unity with Bolivian and Latin American families, organizers, and participants throughout Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize August 6, 2021, as the 196th ANNIVERSARY OF BOLIVIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
