WHEREAS, the 43rd Marine Corps Marathon will be celebrated on Sunday, October 28, 2018, in Arlington, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, this annual endurance showcase welcomes 30,000 participants from around the Commonwealth and across the country for a 26.2-mile run hosted by the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, the Marine Corps Marathon promotes physical fitness and community goodwill while showcasing the tremendous organizational skills of U.S. Marines; and
WHEREAS, each runner starts between the Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon, and finishes at the United States Marine Corps War Memorial, where a U.S. Marine proudly presents all finishers with a fitting eagle, globe, and anchor finisher medal; and
WHEREAS, known as “The People’s Marathon,” the Marine Corps Marathon is a testament and celebration of determination, resilience, and resolve; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is honored to host this tremendous run with the Marines and acknowledges with appreciation the courageous efforts of our brave men and women in uniform who defend our nation and freedoms;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 28, 2018, as the 43RD ANNUAL MARINE CORPS MARATHON DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens
