WHEREAS, Keep Virginia Beautiful was founded in 1953 to address the growing problem of litter on the roadsides and public spaces throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Keep Virginia Beautiful’s mission is to engage and unite Virginians to improve our natural and scenic environment by linking them to volunteer opportunities and information about our five impact areas: Litter Prevention, Recycling, Waste Reduction, Beautification, and Environmental Education; and
WHEREAS, littered highways and public spaces have a negative impact on residents, businesses and tourism; and
WHEREAS, Keep Virginia Beautiful is the leading organization in the Commonwealth coordinating litter abatement, increased recycling and promoting beautification; and
WHEREAS, Keep Virginia Beautiful is celebrating sixty-five years of improving the natural and scenic environment of the Commonwealth of Virginia through its Board of Directors, employees, and many volunteers;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 4, 2018, as the 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF KEEP VIRGINIA BEAUTIFUL in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
