WHEREAS, clean energy makes up over 11% of the nation’s electricity generation; and
WHEREAS, clean energy generates enough energy to power over 230,000 homes in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, clean energy powers the Commonwealth’s economy, driving more than $2 billion in total capital investment to date, over $14 million in annual state and local tax payments, and over $7.4 million in land lease payments; and
WHEREAS, the clean power industry employs over nearly 6,000 Virginians, and the workforce is set to grow substantially with the Commonwealth’s significant investment in offshore wind education, research, and infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s commitment to clean energy has already proven to be a key component of our economic growth, and with continued investment we can remain at the forefront of energy innovation and development; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth encourage all residents to learn more about the benefits of clean energy in our community and celebrate Virginia’s leadership in renewable energy production;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 25-29, 2021, as AMERICAN CLEAN POWER WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
