Business Appreciation Month


WHEREAS, we salute businesses across the Commonwealth for their endurance and perseverance during the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, there are incredible stories of businesses of all sizes that have adjusted and thrived during the pandemic, while others maintained during this time, and some failed to survive; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s small businesses were awarded $120 million in Rebuild VA grants, managed by the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity; and

WHEREAS, despite the challenges our economy has faced since the start of the pandemic, over 200 economic development projects have been announced that are anticipated to create more than 17,000 new jobs and over $10 billion in capital investment; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is consistently chosen by businesses for its talented workforce, education system, central East Coast location, and advanced infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s businesses operate in diverse sectors including cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, energy, life sciences, tourism, agribusiness, and information technology; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s largest private industries, agriculture and forestry, provide food, fiber, and fuel to consumers around the Commonwealth, nation, and world; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is ranked as America’s Top State for Business by CNBC; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth recognizes the accomplishments of its small businesses, major employers, and entrepreneurs all of whom contribute greatly to building and sustaining Virginia’s economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 2021 as BUSINESS APPRECIATION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
