WHEREAS, the construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries, employing more than five million individuals in the United States.; and
WHEREAS, by 2023, it is estimated that the construction industry needs nearly 1 million new craft professionals; and
WHEREAS, “Build Your Future” is an initiative that helps individuals prepare, train, and receive certification in order to obtain a successful career in construction; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the “Build Your Future” initiative is to narrow the skills gap by guiding America’s youth and displaced workers into opportunities that lead to long-term rewarding careers in construction; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the “Build Your Future” initiative is to shift the public’s negative perception about careers in the construction industry and provide a path for individuals to become craft professionals; and
WHEREAS, Careers in Construction Month is an opportunity to recognize dedicated construction professionals and the critical role they play in the development of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 2021, as CAREERS IN CONSTRUCTION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
