WHEREAS, the health, safety, and education of all Virginians is important to the happiness, well-being, and prosperity of our Commonwealth's families and communities; and
WHEREAS, every child in Virginia is a precious individual, full of promise and great potential; and
WHEREAS, 90% of the brain is formed in the critical first five years of life, and 67% of Virginia children have all available parents in the workforce; and
WHEREAS, Virginia's early childhood educators work daily to ensure our children’s safety, health and well-being, and further our children's educational and social skills; and
WHEREAS, it is important to encourage professional levels of practice among those who have chosen to assist families in safeguarding and nurturing children; and
WHEREAS, early childhood educators are critical to the economic infrastructure of our Commonwealth, and to serving the needs of essential personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic, and their significant contributions are acknowledged; and
WHEREAS, Child Care and Early Childhood Professionals Day is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of those who are working directly with our children to make a difference and build Virginia’s future;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 8, 2020, as CHILD CARE AND EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONALS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
