Clinical Nurse Specialist Week


WHEREAS, a Clinical Nurse Specialist is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who holds a graduate degree in a specialized area of nursing and passed an accredited national Clinical Nurse Specialist certification exam; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 400 Clinical Nurse Specialists who work in hospitals and other health care settings across the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists improve clinical outcomes by providing direct patient care and expert consultation, monitoring quality of care, improving the communication between the health care team and family, ensuring that nursing care is scientifically-based and up-to-date, and educating nurses and health care teams about new research, practice, innovations, and procedures; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists assist in bringing the best nursing care to patients and families by ensuring that patients and families receive the best possible outcomes, managing care needs to assist patients in maintaining their independence, conducting research to find new ways to care for and manage symptoms, and providing leadership at the local, state, national, and international levels; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists are critical to the success of our evolving health care system, and it is important to recognize their achievement; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 1-7, 2019, as CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
