WHEREAS, Virginians face an extraordinary time due to the COVID-19 pandemic when the outcome of clinical trials has never been more important; and
WHEREAS, health care research and innovation are critical to improving the lives of all Virginians, no matter who they are or where they live; and
WHEREAS, millions of Virginians have benefitted in the past year from clinical trials for treatments and vaccinations against COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, the research community responded rapidly, creatively, and effectively to evaluate potential therapies and vaccines to combat the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, thousands of individuals and their families generously gave their time volunteering as study participants; and
WHEREAS, Virginia research professionals are national leaders in the development of therapies to treat patients for a wide range of conditions, including infectious diseases, cancer, genetic disorders, cardiovascular illnesses, neurological diseases, and addiction; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s clinical researchers and research associates strive every day to give patients and families hope for a healthier tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Clinical Trials Day is an opportunity to thank all the dedicated clinical research professionals and clinical trial participants in Virginia for their many outstanding contributions;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 20, 2021, as CLINICAL TRIALS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
