WHEREAS, the colleges, universities, and organizations of Hampton Roads, Virginia, are committed to creating a highly-skilled workforce that is critical to growing and sustaining a competitive advantage; and
WHEREAS, the modern economy increasingly requires workers to pursue additional training throughout their career; and
WHEREAS, retraining and upskilling our incumbent workforce is a responsibility shared among individuals, employers, and our society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, firms who invest in worker training are more efficient, effective, and economically competitive; and
WHEREAS, having a knowledgeable, skilled workforce improves the performance of those organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Association for Talent Development (ATD) – the world’s largest association dedicated to those who develop talent in organizations – has declared December 2-6, 2019, as “Employee Learning Week,” and designated this time for organizations to recognize the value of employee learning; and
WHEREAS, the Southeastern Chapter of ATD (SEVA ATD) in Virginia Beach, Virginia, has demonstrated its commitment to developing the skills of employees and the workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize December 2-6, 2019, as EMPLOYEE LEARNING WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
