WHEREAS, Virginia’s information technology professionals lead and ensure stewardship, security and modernization of the Commonwealth’s IT assets and infrastructure in an increasingly digital and virtual society; and
WHEREAS, Tuesday, September 15, 2020, is recognized as National IT Professionals Day, which celebrates the profound impact that IT experts and partners have on developing, leveraging, and implementing new, emerging technologies for the benefit of all; and
WHEREAS, information technology professionals are entrusted with building and maintaining interconnected, ever-growing IT architecture to protect and provide the secure storage and transfer of sensitive data in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s information technology specialists, partners and the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) continue to power the Commonwealth’s digital response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), sustaining critical, lifesaving government and business functions and connectivity for Virginians; and
WHEREAS, Information Technology Appreciation Week recognizes and celebrates the immense contributions that information technology professionals provide to enhancing quality of life, enabling education, sustaining businesses and jobs, driving economic success and innovating for future generations for all who live and work in Virginia;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 14-18, 2020, as INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS APPRECIATION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
