Ismaili CIVIC Day


WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia encourages and recognizes volunteers to improve the quality of life of all Virginians; and

WHEREAS, Ismaili CIVIC is a global program under which the Shia Ismaili Muslim community across the world has united around its centuries old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service to improve the quality of life of the communities in which they live, regardless of faith, gender and background; and

WHEREAS, this international endeavor reflects the community’s ethic of civic engagement and good citizenship, exemplifying Islam’s core values of service, peace, compassion, and care for the vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, reflecting the pluralism of the Muslim world, which has been evident across the Commonwealth, the Ismailis are a richly diverse community within the Shia branch of Islam belonging to distinct ethno-geographic and linguistic traditions, who are united by their belief in a living hereditary, Imam of the Time, from the progeny of Prophet Muhammad; and

WHEREAS, the Ismaili Council for the Northeastern USA, through Ismaili CIVIC, will continue to serve the needs of Virginians with the goal of improving the quality of human life in the areas of health, education, economic development, environmental stewardship, culture, and pluralism; now

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 26, 2021, as ISMAILI CIVIC DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our residents and visitors
