Life Insurance Awareness Month

WHEREAS, the vast majority of Virginians recognize the importance of owning life insurance to safeguard the financial security of their loved ones; and

WHEREAS, in 2016, the life insurance industry pays roughly $10 billion to Virginia beneficiaries, providing a tremendous source of financial relief and security to families experiencing the loss of a loved one; and

WHEREAS, despite the peace of mind that life insurance brings to hundreds of thousands of Virginia families, there are still too many Virginians who lack adequate life insurance coverage; and

WHEREAS, a large number of adults in Virginia have no life insurance, and most of those with coverage have less than experts recommend; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), Life Happens, and a coalition of leading insurance companies and organizations are celebrating September as “Life Insurance Awareness Month”; and

WHEREAS, Life Insurance Awareness Month is an opportunity to encourage individuals who are eligible for life insurance to seek advice from qualified insurance professionals, and to take the actions necessary to achieve a financially secure future for their loved ones;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 2018 as LIFE INSURANCE AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
