Marine Corps Marathon Day


WHEREAS, the 46th Marine Corps Marathon will be celebrated on Sunday, October 31, 2021 in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, this annual endurance event hosted by the United States Marine Corps is a display of honor, courage and commitment; and

WHEREAS, more than 30,000 runners, spectators and volunteers from around the world register to participate in the three unique distances of the MCM, MCM10K and MCM50K; and

WHEREAS, known as “The People’s Marathon,” the Marine Corps Marathon is a testament and celebration of determination, resilience and resolve; and

WHEREAS, as runners complete their designated distance, they earn an Eagle, Globe and Anchor finisher medal, proudly joining “The Few, The Proud, The Finishers;” and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia acknowledges with appreciation the courageous efforts of our United States Marine Corps and all brave men and women in uniform who defend our nation and freedoms;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize October 31, 2021, as MARINE CORPS MARATHON DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
