Military Marriage Day


WHEREAS, Virginia is home to 27 military bases, with every branch of the military represented within the Commonwealth’s borders; and

WHEREAS, more than 127,000 active duty military members and their families reside in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, to serve in the United States military is more than a job, but a lifestyle that includes the entire service member’s family; and

WHEREAS, service in the United States military exposes service members and their families to challenges, opportunities, sacrifices, and rewards in pursuit of mission readiness; and,

WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes the strength and resilience of military spouses who support their service members and who are important to the well-being and readiness of our troops; and

WHEREAS, Military Marriage Day celebrates the importance of strong military marriages and encourages military couples to engage in development of the health of their relationships for themselves and their country; and

WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes the importance of strong marriages that foster greater well-being and mission readiness in the military; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize August 14, 2021 as MILITARY MARRIAGE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
