WHEREAS, the health and well-being of all Virginians is of great importance to the prosperity, happiness, and livelihood of our Commonwealth's families and communities; and
WHEREAS, cancer registrars are health care professionals who meet the needs of patients by collecting, analyzing, and maintaining data on persons diagnosed with cancer; and
WHEREAS, data collected by cancer registrars is used by physicians, scientists, epidemiologists, and public health officers to monitor treatment and continuing care of patients; and
WHEREAS, cancer registrars throughout Virginia are committed to identifying the latest medical advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer; and
WHEREAS, the 2021 theme of the 25th annual National Cancer Registrars Week is “Cancer Registrars: The Driving Force of Cancer Data,” which reflects the critical role cancer registrars play in capturing the data that informs cancer prevention and screening programs, treatment, and research; and
WHEREAS, National Cancer Registrars Week recognizes the contributions that professional cancer registrars make to the field of epidemiology and research that is dedicated to finding a cure for this devastating disease;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize April 5-9, 2021, as NATIONAL CANCER REGISTRARS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
