WHEREAS, National Payroll Week celebrates the unique partnership among America’s workers, their companies, and the payroll professionals who pay them; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s payroll professionals help maintain the economic health of the Commonwealth by executing payments into the unemployment insurance system, providing information for child support enforcement, and carrying out tax withholding, reporting, and depositing; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals contribute to the well-being of American families by helping identify noncustodial parents and making sure they comply with child support mandates; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals play a critical role in educating both the business community and the public about the payroll tax withholding systems; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals meet regularly with federal and state tax officials to discuss improving compliance with government procedures and how compliance can be achieved at lower cost to both government and businesses; and
WHEREAS, National Payroll Week celebrates the economic and social achievements of payroll professionals, and honors their dedication to their profession;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 3-7, 2018, as NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
