WHEREAS, the American Payroll Association has launched a public awareness campaign paying tribute to payroll professionals who support the workforce by paying wages, reporting worker earnings, and withholding federal employment taxes; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals in Virginia play a key role in maintaining the economic health of the Commonwealth, carrying out diverse tasks including paying into the unemployment insurance system, carrying out tax withholding, reporting, and depositing; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals play an increasingly important role ensuring the economic security of American families by educating both the business community and the public about the payroll tax withholding systems; and
WHEREAS, payroll professionals meet regularly with federal and state tax officials to discuss improving compliance with government procedures and how compliance can be achieved at a lesser cost to both government and businesses; and
WHEREAS, National Payroll Week celebrate the economic and social achievements of payroll professionals, and honors their dedication to their profession;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 5-11, 2021, as NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
