WHEREAS, Virginians recognize the vital role that swimming and aquatic-related activities play in both physical and mental health; and
WHEREAS, the residents of Virginia understand the importance of water safety to prevent drownings or recreational water-related injuries; and
WHEREAS, the National Water Safety Month Coalition has developed safe swimming facilities, aquatic programs, home pools, and spas that provide healthy places to learn, grow; and
WHEREAS, National Water Safety Month is an initiative designed to promote water safety and to encourage Americans to be more “water aware”; and
WHEREAS, there are a number of ongoing efforts by the pool, spa, waterpark, recreation and parks industries to educate the public on pool and spa safety issues and initiatives; and
WHEREAS, it is important to communicate water safety rules and programs to individuals of all ages, including owners of private pools, users of public swimming facilities, or visitors to waterparks;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 2021 as NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
