Pansexual Visibility Day


WHEREAS, Pansexual Visibility Day was founded to elevate and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of those who identify as pansexual; and

WHEREAS, May 24th of each year is designated as Pansexual Visibility Day, which acknowledges the courage and resilience of people who identify as pansexual, as well as raises awareness of the stigma and discrimination faced by this population; and

WHEREAS, since pansexuality is an often an unknown and misunderstood sexual orientation, it is imperative that we dismantle beliefs and assumptions about those who identify as pansexual; and

WHEREAS, leaders, LGBTQIA+ organizations, activists, and allies help raise awareness on the importance of inclusion, protections, and respect for those who identity as pansexual; and

WHEREAS, artist, performers, and athletes who identity as pansexual have helped other individuals who also find the courage to come out, speak out, and be proud of who they are; and

WHEREAS, it is critical that an intersectional perspective and acknowledgement of systematic racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia is needed to effectively address the needs and concerns of individuals who identify as pansexual and others considered part of the overall bisexual+ community;

WHEREAS, those who identify as pansexual should be acknowledged, accepted, and validated; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that Virginians work together to dismantle beliefs and ingrained assumptions of gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize May 24, 2021, as PANSEXUAL VISIBILITY DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
