Patriot Day


WHEREAS, twenty years ago, our Nation lost the lives of nearly 3,000 individuals on September, 2001 at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, these attacks targeted not only American citizens, but targeted the American values that bind our communities on the principles of freedom, justice, and prosperity; and

WHEREAS, every Virginian felt the pain of these attacks, however, it united us and we joined together to reaffirm our values of service and strength; and

WHEREAS, the deadly attacks on September 11, 2001 have forever changed the course of our history; and

WHEREAS, every year we remember those who lost their lives, the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for others, and those who have been forever marked by this moment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize September 11, 2021 as PATRIOT DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
