WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole agencies play a crucial role in the public safety system; and
WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers are highly-trained, skilled professionals who protect the public by providing thoughtful, appropriate supervision to defendants and offenders; and
WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole agencies work diligently with stakeholders at all levels to prevent crime and promote successful re-entry; and
WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole officers utilize evidence-based practices which increase court appearance rates and reduce recidivism ultimately enhancing public safety; and
WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole officers work with dedication to facilitate positive change and positive outcomes for defendants and offenders by supplying them with the necessary assistance and support they need to become productive citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize July 21-27, 2019, as PRETRIAL, PROBATION, AND PAROLE SUPERVISION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
