Problem Gambling Awareness Month



WHEREAS, March is designated as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month by the National Council on Problem Gambling, and;

WHEREAS, problem gambling is a public health issue that impacts Americans of all ages, ethnicities, races, and gender, and;

WHEREAS, problem gambling has significant societal and economic costs to individuals, families, businesses, and communities, and;

WHEREAS, problem gambling is treatable, and treatment is effective in minimizing the harm to both individuals and society; and

WHEREAS: the Virginia Lottery, Virginia Council on Problem Gambling, and  Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services are working to raise awareness and public education about problem gambling, along with the availability and effectiveness of treatment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize March 2021 as PROBLEM GAMBLING AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
